Mayor Oscar B. Goodman of Las Vegas, NV has officially proclaimed September 2010 to be Poker Month, in recognition of PokerGives.org, a 501(c)3 charitable giving organization established for the poker community to give back. PokerGives.org was founded by poker industry professionals Mike Sexton, Linda Johnson, Jan Fisher, and Lisa Tenner as a way for the poker world to "Give Back" to worthwhile charity organizations. The goal is to raise funds through poker events and donate it to four mainstream charities that are near and dear to their hearts.
In recognition of this upcoming month, Poker Nation Social Club is hosting a charity tournament to benefit PokerGives.org on Saturday, September 4th, 2010 at 2:00PM. The buy-in is broken down as follows:
$20 for T$500 in chips - goes to the prize pool
$5 for T$500 in chips - Dealer Appreciation Add-on
$25 for T$1500 in chips - PokerGives.org Donation Add-on
= $50 for T$2500 in chips
In addition to the cash from the prize pool, the winner from our club will be entered into a drawing to win from the following prizes (please note that our winner will be put in a drawing with winners from card rooms around the country for these prizes):
- TWO seats to the WPT Invitational – Two winners will be selected to play in the World Poker Tour Celebrity Invitational Tournament. This is a $200,000 televised freeroll that you cannot buy into, you must be invited. You'll rub shoulders with Hollywood celebrities and famous poker pros at the Commerce Casino in California.
- A WPT Boot Camp Seat - Winner gets to pick the date of the camp they would like to attend – good for 1 year - $1,895 value
- A Card Player Cruises Poker Trip – Leaves out of Los Angeles December 5 -12, 2010 to the Mexican Riviera - $1,200 value
- An hour poker lesson via phone with Mike Sexton – $300 value
- An hour poker lesson via phone with Linda Johnson – $300 value
