New tournament!

Starting this Saturday, we are hosting a PLO8 tournament every Saturday night at 10pm! This tournament will use our standard tournament format (until further notice, we may tweak the structure if it doesn't suit the game). And yes, it does count towards our tournament league.

Give us a call if you'd like to play - we hope to see you down here! This is a great way to learn the game if you've never played before! ...

Our freeroll league is heating up!

Over 250 different players have played in a tournament at Poker Nation since the tournament league started on July 5th. 20 players will be invited to play in our $3000 freeroll event on Sunday, October 3rd, 2010 at 2pm. Small adjustment to PokerGives.org charitable tournament

In order to help us raise more money for PokerGives.org, we will be allowing unlimited rebuys for the first hour and making an add-on available at the end of the hour. Those of you who frequent our $20/20 tournament will be familiar with the structure. I have updated the main announcement in the news article below as well. Of course we don't expect the rebuys to be as prolific as the $20/20 tournaments get, but since it is double points for the league and all, we think some of you might want to rebuy and give yourself another shot at getting more points. ...

PokerGives.org Charity Tournament!

Mayor Oscar B. Goodman of Las Vegas, NV has officially proclaimed September 2010 to be Poker Month, in recognition of PokerGives.org, a 501(c)3 charitable giving organization established for the poker community to give back. PokerGives.org was founded by poker industry professionals Mike Sexton, Linda Johnson, Jan Fisher, and Lisa Tenner as a way for the poker world to "Give Back" to worthwhile charity organizations. The goal is to raise funds through poker events and donate it to four mainstream charities that are near and dear to their hearts.

In recognition of this upcoming month, Poker Nation Social Club is hosting a charity tournament to benefit PokerGives.org on Saturday, September 4th, 2010 at 2:00PM. The buy-in is broken down as follows:

$20 for T$500 in chips - goes to the prize pool
$5 for T$500 in chips - Dealer Appreciation Add-on
$25 for T$1500 in chips - PokerGives.org Donation Add-on

= $50 for T$2500 in chips

In addition to the cash from the prize pool, the winner from our club will be entered into a drawing to win from the following prizes (please note that our winner will be put in a drawing with winners from card rooms around the country for these prizes):

TWO seats to the WPT Invitational – Two winners will be selected to play in the World Poker Tour Celebrity Invitational Tournament. This is a $200,000 televised freeroll that you cannot buy into, you must be invited. You'll rub shoulders with Hollywood celebrities and famous poker pros at the Commerce Casino in California.
A WPT Boot Camp Seat - Winner gets to pick the date of the camp they would like to attend – good for 1 year - $1,895 value
A Card Player Cruises Poker Trip – Leaves out of Los Angeles December 5 -12, 2010 to the Mexican Riviera - $1,200 value
An hour poker lesson via phone with Mike Sexton – $300 value
An hour poker lesson via phone with Linda Johnson – $300 value

Our dealer, Christy, and her boyfriend Greg welcomed Gabriella Delores at 9:45am this morning! 7 pounds, 11 ounces, and 21 inches long! We are so happy and thrilled for them!

Ralph picked 7 pounds, 11 ounces
Chris picked 12:00PM-4PM on August 6th which was closer than Ricky's bid of 12:00AM-4:00AM on August 6th

We're going to have a sit-and-go for the Casino Arizona Ladies Championship on Thursday, August 5th! It will probably be at 7pm, with a buy-in around $25-30. We're just trying to get a table full of ladies to celebrate the return of our favorite piece of eye candy, Tim the dealer. :)

At Poker Nation, we believe that poker is a benign adult amusement, a competitive game in the ranks of pool, darts, and bowling (which are also played for money all around the world). We do not encourage "chance" gambling and strongly believe poker does not fall under that umbrella, but has merely taken refuge there for lack of a better venue to enjoy the game, and for lack of understanding of the game by those in high places.

Our mission is to provide a safe, fun place to play competitive poker (and other card games such as cribbage which are often played here), for people who want to relax, make new friends, and have a good time. While the national news media may portray private card clubs as "seedy", "underground", or unsafe, our members know that Poker Nation is an open, well-lit place, filled with upstanding citizens of the city. Among our membership are working men and women, retirees, husbands and wives with children, and college students. They are your friends, your neighbors, and people just like you -- people who just want to have a good time while playing a game they enjoy. Our social club does not provide any additional strain on law enforcement, and in fact since we are up late at night, our shopping center neighbors have enjoyed a 100% decrease in late-night burglaries of their businesses.
